Mellon Educate is an Irish-based African development charity founded by developer and philanthropist Niall Mellon in 2002 and established as a charitable company in 2004. Thanks to the enormous collective effort of some 25,000 volunteers, in conjunction with the South African government, Mellon Educate has built houses for 125,000 homeless people in South Africa’s poorest townships through its annual Building Blitz initiative.
Along with housing, Mellon Educate believes that education is an essential building block for life. Mellon’s annual Teaching Blitz brings volunteers to South Africa to build, renovate and modernize schools, and to implement teaching programs geared to improving education outcomes. Working with collaboration school partners, the Mellon Educate charity is laying the foundations for citizen empowerment in African society.
Volunteers are always welcome to apply for the Teaching Blitz and the Building Blitz as individuals or as corporate groups. Mellon Educate is building new partnerships with corporates that are looking to make a real difference to the lives of young people in South Africa, and is the first official community partner of the Enterprise Africa Summit.
